Social Innovation”, “Social Enterprise”, and “Social Entrepreneurship” are terms that are commonly used in current popular and professional parlance to describe efforts that aim or claim to offer effective and creative solutions to difficult challenges facing communities, and our human community at large. However, there remains a lack of consensus about definitions of these terms, or about what distinguishes them from each other or from other purpose-driven efforts in the nonprofit sector or in communities.
Join the CommNS and participants from our network in a summer book club exploration of these terms, their origins, various definitions, their meaning in context, related concepts, and tools and strategies for applying them in the real world. Through this collective exploration, participants will improve their working knowledge of the terms and the fields that they relate to, familiarize themselves with promising applications and noteworthy critiques, and shape their own unique perspectives on the course themes.
